Structure

In terms of thickness, this coating is thinner. It is more flexible. This determines the requirements for the preparation of the base: manufacturers recommend having an absolutely uniform base. Otherwise, every hole or hump will eventually be visible. Practice has shown that the differences can be significant (up to 5 mm), but they must be smooth. No "steps" or cracks, but no smooth gradual ascent or descent. The size difference during installation is compensated by the flexibility of the coating.

The cork floor  also consists of several layers:

Interlocking cork flooring is stiffer and very similar to laminate flooring. But it is only similar, because the laminate is a pressed paper covered with a foil with a printed pattern. The same material consists mainly of natural ingredients. It is stiffness that determines the more lenient requirements of manufacturers for the base: there may be differences in height, but not more than 2 mm per 2 meters. In addition, a substrate can be placed under this coating, improving sound insulation and thermal insulation.

From this we can conclude that it makes sense to install a self-adhesive cork floor in rooms with high humidity (kitchen, bathroom) and high traffic (corridor, hall). It can even be placed in unheated rooms or where there are large changes in humidity and temperature (e.g. in bathrooms). In salons, the lock is a miracle stopper. Its advantage is the ease of assembly, but it is worth remembering that it is made on the basis of MDF board, if water penetrates into the seams, the base swells, the rod will be deformed. After drying, unfortunately, it will not return to its original form. But in this it is no different from ordinary laminate, so this is not such a big disadvantage in salons. It is only necessary to remove the spilled liquid in time.
